cooltext176261931433825Andrew Boyd is a student of poetry, blogging, and story telling. Andrew became a self-published author on February 27, 2013. He is one who is honest to where he made people mad, yet they respect and respected what he had, have, and has to say.

A two-time kidney transplant recipient, Andrew is one who looks at the world in a way that gives and gave him perspective as to how his life would be shaped due to his medical experiences, as well as helping others by exuding inspiration and compassion to those around him.

He is a graduate of the Class of 1996 from Germantown-Lankenau Motivational Program Annex, where his writing prowess was born in the 10th Grade, and continued on while attending Arcadia University in 1996. After a writing hiatus in 1997, a trip to New York City in March 2010 reignited his passion for writing. While posting several of his writings on social media outlets, he also performs and performed spoken word poetry in the Philadelphia and New York areas. He is currently performing on Black Poetry Cafe’s (BPC) internet radio show “FEVER FRIDAYS”.

When the world needs your light, the supply is unlimited. When you need the world’s light, the service is disconnected. Shrouded in darkness, with not even a candle’s flicker to show the way, how does one heal?

Andrew Boyd’s result is to conduct his own Therapy Session. This fifth book in the WORDPLAY poetry series is a chronicle of crepuscules that Andrew has faced throughout his life, some unbeknownst to those who believed knew him best. What he hopes to accomplish through this psychoanalysis is the prescription to understanding, development and sustainable peace.

cooltext176262017324112 Hate

Sitting on the floor in front of a crowd,
My legs are crossed Indian Style,
Elbows on the knees.
Head bowed down and temperament apparent,
My microphone will melt with what I will say.

Hate is a strong word: never to be taken lightly.
There are many who do not use the word when
Expressing the feelings they have for others.

I Hate the fact that there is suffering,
I Hate the fact that there are immoral people.
I Hate that those who do the most harm are
The ones worshipping under the steeple.

I Hate how they lie to innocent parties.
I Hate that they rage on another.
I Hate how they do not hold themselves accountable
As they break the heart of their mother.

I Hate how people turned their backs to me.
I Hate that they feel they are seen as priority one.
I Hate that patience to them is a waste of time
Yet they look to me to jump the gun.

I Hate how people say that they are by my side,
Yet their actions speak louder than their words.
I Hate the fact that they lied to me that way
To the point where I show them my flock of birds.

I Hate that I trust some people early:
I Hate that part about myself.
There should be many people walking with shirts
That read “Trusting me is bad for your health.”

I Hate this life that I live:
I can only blame myself.
I Hate that I placed myself in these situations:
I Hate that I cannot see my worth and wealth.

To acknowledge that I Hate myself
Tells me personally that I see more than I care to see.
I need to stop hating the reflection in my mirror,
If I am to change things around and about me.

Thank you

An Editor Called “Text-to-Speech”

Greetings once more. 🙂

Today’s subject matter, I believe, is of great use to Indie Authors everywhere.

No one “loves” the daunting task of editing. Not even editors; much less authors. Yet, it is of primary importance if one is going to have a book worth reading. Every good author knows that the value of his/her book is weighed on how properly it is written. This is exactly why Indie Authors spend 9/10s of their time editing their works—well, the good ones, that is.

Herein lies the problem: many times things transpire that inevitably get in the way, and in the end, causes us to miss things. One of the main issues is called Author Blindness.

What is Author Blindness, you may be wondering? Here is a great article written by my mentor, friend and publisher, Y. Correa. Please feel free to take a look.

Author Blindness

Of course, sometimes there are other factors that can impeded the ability to edit properly. At times it is just bad eyes. There are many a random situation that can intervene and irrevocably hinder an Indie Author’s editing process.

cooltext170868228446602The tool that I am going to share with you today might very well change your life. And, I mean that.

In recent times I’ve discovered a tool that benefits us all. It is a little thing called “Text-to-Speech“. Using it is as simple as listening and following along; something most of us learned in elementary school.

Do you remember when your teacher would say, “Open your books to page 15. I will read and you follow along.” In essence, that is very much what utilizing Text-to-Speech for edits is like.

Now, of course, there is one very important note that everyone must take heed in:

To use Text-to-Speech in order to perfect your work, it is also important that you know proper grammar and punctuation. This tool would be of no benefit to someone who does not have a basic knowledge of conventional and correct English.

I do suggest however, should you be an individual that is not well versed in syntax structure, that you find a professional editor to assist you as it would be more beneficial.

With that said, allow me to give you an idea of how Text-to-Speech can work to your advantage.

todays-lesson-snip

  1. To use Text-to-Speech you will need an electronic device equipped with an already installed version, or will allow you to download an application.
  2. You will also need your manuscript in Microsoft Word form.
  3. Next, it is a matter of listening, following along and paying attention.
  4. Personally, I like to have a notebook or note taking application on hand whilst I use Text-to-Speech.

Here is how it works:

  • Depending on your electronic device you might be required to either load your manuscript to the device directly, or email it to the device. This completely depends on what device you are using. My preferred method is my Kindle.
  • The next step would be to find out whether your device has an already installed Text-to-Speech tool (most kindles have a pre-installed program), or if you will need to download one.
If you have to download one, the only application that I I would really recommend it one called “Voice Aloud”. The icon looks something like this:
    unnamed
  • Once your manuscript has been loaded to your device, and you are certain that your device has the Text-to-Speech app, you can then move on to the editing process.

Side Note: Most Kindles will automatically convert your Microsoft Word document into a mobi file.

  • At this time, have your notebook or note taking app handy in order to jot down the typos you might have spotted. Or you can also use the actual Text-to-Speech application to “highlight” the mistakes.
  • Once you are done listening, reading, following along, and taking notes, you can then go to your original manuscript file and implement the corrections.

That’s it. It is really THAT easy. You will be amazed how many things you will spot when your manuscript is being read to you.

So, my dear author friends, take advantage of this great tool to perfect your prose.

Cheers and until next time.

A Group for LGBT Authors and Readers

Hello all and Happy New Year 2016!

It is so wonderful to connect with you all on this new year, and even more wonderful to realize that we have yet another year to make our dreams come true.

div64wy

Today, I was browsing Google+ an Facebook for “Groups/Communities” to join that would help provide exposure to my works. What I found troubled me. There are little to no Groups/Communities on Facebook and Google+ for LGBTQIA books and book lovers. The ones that I did find do not give much leeway for authors and readers to connect, or for authors to promote their works.

After browsing and thinking about the situation deeply, and knowing that perhaps I am doing a bit too much, I opted to create a Group for said purpose. And, so I did.

I would like to introduce you to “LGBT Bookworms“, a Facebook group for authors and readers alike.

LGBT Bookworms

My hope is that this group will acquire a life of its own and people within the community—as well as others that enjoy the literature—might commune, mingle and celebrate our love for the genre.

I am blogging about this in the hopes that you help me spread the word and get people involved.

Thank you for your time and all the best.

Regards and love,

Advanced Reading Copy Review of “Boundless Limits” by Da’Kharta Rising

Hello Dear Followers.

Today I bring you a different type of review. Typically it would be a Drive By Review, but since this is officially the first book I’ve ever ARC read before, I’m giving it a special spot light.

I’ve never done an ARC read before. Crazy, huh? I didn’t even know what it was until my Publisher explained it to me. So, needless to say, I’m excited to do this one.

The entire title of the work didn’t fit in my subject line … 😦 but here it is: “Boundless Limits: Transcendent Choice Book One” by Da’Kharta Rising. You know you’re in for something special with a title like that. It’s intense. As intense as the story. Let me stop because I’m getting ahead of myself. I have to do this the right way.

ARC Review of “Boundless Limits: Transcendent Choice Book One” by Da’Kharta Rising.

DR.New.Logo2

Life tends to, by its own nature, topple out of control from time to time. It seems to be the natural order of things. However, what happens when your life, while not perfect, is perfect to you and without warning everything comes tumbling down? What happens when everything you know, love and hold dear is lost to you in the blink of an eye?

Rain falls, wind blows, and people are yet people, and in so being they are flawed. It is in these imperfections that life tends to teeter on the brink of oblivion. Yet, what happens when oblivion is nothing more than an extension of human existence? Does humanity find repose in the hereafter, or do they yearn to reach out to that which they left behind?

This story explores all of those questions. It lays out a plot that is not only unquestionable, but extraordinary. “Boundless Limits”, truly examines the shortcomings of the human condition, and the never ending limits of eternity and its caretakers. This is done in the form of Therice & Felipe, Mama, Vindicta and Amare.

Therice and Felipe have a love that eclipses most. It’s a powerful sort of connection, the kind that most covet and never obtain. Mama, loves her daughter Therice and only desires to see her. It is at that point when catastrophe arrives and transcendence begins. In come Vindicta and Amare, two powerful angels in their own right whom find themselves having to make a series of choices that may not play into the grand scheme of what the High Council desires.

I am wholly enamored with this story. While I was reading it, it was very much like watching a movie—clear, concise and vigorous. I know that “Boundless Limits” will stay with me for a while, and I will read it again. I can hardly wait to see what happens next.

Please be advised that there is one eerie, morbid scene that is not appropriate for children or younger audiences. Apart from that … just an amazing, amazing story. I highly recommend this one.

Drive By Review Time

It’s that time again. Once again, I bring you a Drive By Review. Today we’ll be looking at “The G Particle” by Y. Correa, Multi-genre Author. This woman is no joke. She truly writes in all genres. It’s pretty impressive to be honest.

So, without further ado, here is a look at my review for “The G Particle”

Three things that I must say before I go on:

1) It takes some serious gumption to tell an entire story in 500 words.

2) I’m not really enamored all too much with Sci-Fi. It’s not necessarily my cup of tea, if you will.

3) Even with those perspectives, I went into this story in an unbiased way as I am trying very hard to expand my literary horizons.

That being said, I have got to say that I was pleasantly surprised. As a writer of short stories I know first hand that stories can be told without reaching thousands of words yet, doing so in just 500 words is also a very big stretch. Nonetheless, Ms. Correa did it. I was amazed that such a complete and interesting story could be told in less than one page. The end of the story was particularly interesting. I didn’t expect it!

I suppose that my favorite aspect about the story is that while it was classified as Sci-Fi, it didn’t feel like one. I am not sure if you’ll understand what I mean. Personally, I don’t typically read Sci-Fi because I can’t get past the techno-babble and the having to know Rocket Science in order to understand it. That wasn’t the case at all with this little work. It was indeed Sci-Fi but it read like Contemporary Fiction.

I was happily surprised with this micro-short. Not only was it very quick, but it leaves you thinking. That’s the best sort of story. Good things all around. I highly recommend it.

Gold star

All right, until next time!

Signing out!
